Backpacking at Green Lakes

Bend, Oregon

Great weekend backpacking trip to Green Lakes!

We spent the first night at Moraine Lake then hiked up to Green Lakes for second night. We day hiked towards Broken Top, which was a beautiful trail! Great close-up view of South Sister. This is one of the best hikes in Central Oregon. The trail follows Fall Creek all the way up (4 miles) to Green Lakes. There are three beautiful “blue-green” lakes with nice campsites surrounding them.

This area is heavily used on weekends during the summer months, so plan accordingly. Some campsites are closed for restoration due to overuse. Please keep our wilderness clean by packing all your trash out.

Green Lakes Trailhead is a few miles past Mt. Bachelor up the Cascade Lakes Highway. There is a nice parking facility and a creek, which makes a nice setting for a picnic lunch! Restrooms (port-a-potties) are available.

You’ll need a NW Forest Pass to park at the Green Lakes Trailhead. Pick one up at Powder House or Pine Mountain Sports off of Century Drive/NW 14th Avenue.
