The famous “Phil’s Trail Complex” is a great place to ride for all level riders. I frequently see kids as young as 5 and seniors in their 70’s riding the lower trails and having a blast! Of course there are more challenging trails for advanced riders, but it’s nice to have a trail system that caters to all level riders. If you’re lucky, you will see “Phil” riding the trails himself! Go HERE for information on bike rentals, mountain bike trails, etc.
The Cascade Lakes Highway, which is part of the Cascade Cycling Classic, is a great road ride and features beautiful scenery along the forested highway passing by a number of pristine mountain lakes.
You can rent The Bend Cycle Pub where you get 12-15 of your friends and ride a “pedal-powered” bar on wheels! Another interesting bike is the featured photo in this post — a 5 person bike with a spot for your beverage in the middle.
In the Old Mill District, Wheel Fun Rentals has a variety of unique bikes to choose from. They also have traditional bikes along with a bicycle for a family of six!
We can’t forget the Segway! The Bend Tour Company has Segways for rent or you can take a guided tour. If you’ve never ridden a Segway, you need to try it. It’s super fun and easy. No pedaling required! It’s more of a “people mover”.
If you are looking for miles of paved bike paths, head to Sunriver, Oregon (18 miles south of Bend). Around 30 miles of nicely paved bike paths wind all through Sunriver, passing by the Sunriver Village, Sunriver Resort, SHARC waterslides, two beautiful golf courses, and the Deschutes River. At the north end of Sunriver, you can continue onto dirt single track and ride all the way to Bend along the river on the Deschutes River Trail.
The best way to experience Bend is not by car. Bend is a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly city. Take your time and stroll through town stopping at Powell’s Sweet Shoppe for some old fashioned candy or tasty gelato, Pizza Mondo for a slice of gourmet pizza, Bend Brewing Company for a fresh microbrew, or DaKine Grindz on Galveston Ave. for a cool cup of shave ice. There are so many options, and if you are driving, you will surely miss out!
So, head to one of our many bike shops HERE and rent your favorite pedaling machine! See Bend or Sunriver close up, and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the river. Talk to the bike shop employees to get more information on where to ride and how to get there.
Summer is upon us with clear blue skies and warm temperatures. Get out there and enjoy the fresh mountain air and beautiful scenery…on a bike!
