Floating the River

A favorite pasttime here in Bend is floating the Deschutes River in the summer. Whether you are on a blow-up floatie, kayak, SUP, canoe, or some other “floating apparatus”, it’s a great way to relax and enjoy the scenery. The route begins at Riverbend Park and you float through the Old Mill District and end up in Drake Park.

The passage under the bridge allows floaters to continue on the river taking the “left channel” and going down a series of nine mini rapids into McKay Park (an option is to portage around the rapids at McKay Park). Experienced kayakers can take the “middle channel” and surf the man-made wave. Please note: the “right channel” is off limits.
