Painted Hills are magnificent to see!
If you haven’t taken the scenic drive out to the Painted Hills just east of Prineville, you need to do it!
The picturesque landscape is breathtaking, especially at sunset. If you have a good camera, you are sure to capture some nice images at different times of the day. This picture was taken mid-day, so not too impressive. Unfortunately, we could not stay out there until sunset. There are a few short trails that take you to different viewpoints of the hills, and also a nice shaded picnic area with restrooms.
On our way back to Bend, we drove through the Ochoco Wilderness area and stopped at Walton Lake. A pretty little lake with a campground and great fishing. We then stopped at Tastee Treats in Prineville for some tastee ice cream. It was a nice outing on Labor Day and traffic was light.
Driving through Prineville and up the hill, you have a great view of the Meadow Lakes Golf Course and I was reminded that with winter approaching, this is the place to golf as it is rare to find snow on this course.
